As the saying goes, “practice makes perfect†also is true with singing. The first step is to commit yourself to practice regularly everyday for thirty minutes or more a day.
Here are guidelines when practicing:
1. Locate a music teacher who is capable of teaching you the style of singing that you desire. Ask questions and meet up with your music teacher so you will determine if she is the right music tutor for you.
A music tutor will help you set goals for yourself as well as will guide you correctly on how to achieve those goals.
2. Before each practice session, make sure that you are warmed up properly.
3. Record yourself while singing a certain song as well as the vocal exercises that you want to learn during your practice session.
Sing the song of choice as correctly and as beautifully as your voice permits, because this recording aims is to offer you with a reference so you can monitor your improvement.
4. During practice, concentrate on only one difficulty each time, because this way, you can get more accomplished. Trying to solve everything all at once will only lead to frustration because you won’t get anything done.
5. When tired, stop and rest and relax a while for thirty minutes or less; don’t let repetition turn out to be mechanical. You won’t be able to accomplish anything when you are tired. It will just lead to more mistakes.
6. Take down notes. Take notes of your mistakes as well as your progress.
7. Don’t drink cold drinks after practicing.
Important points to remember:
• Smoking will swell and irritate your “vocal chordsâ€. You as a singer should take care of your voice because your career lies solely on it.
• No drinking of alcoholic drinks.
• Instead of straining your voice trying to put volume in your voice, use a microphone. Adjust the microphone so that it can be loud enough for you.
• Conditioning and Fine tuning of your voice as well as your actions directly effects your singing. Every time you practice, try also practicing your body actions, because singing isn’t just singing; it involves a great amount of body language so you can connect with your audience.
Regular practice will improve and enhance your singing voice quicker. Try hard to incorporate your singing practice into your daily schedule because this is more effective than practicing once every week even for longer. Good luck and have fun while you practice.
